Talent (or not as the case may be)

Somewhat paradoxically, natural writing talent doesn’t appear to be something that’s considered by many professional CV companies.

Why do you say this?

We regularly receive applications from candidates who work (or have worked) for other professional CV writing firms. In most cases the CVs of these applicants apply with CVs that not only include errors, but which usually include also have a variety of other issues including problems with the wording, grammar and English (let alone key factors such as the sales message, focus etc). Somewhat surprisingly, many such candidates don’t even apply with a decent cover letter (and sometimes they don’t even include any cover letter or introduction at all!). As such, many applicants who work (or worked) for other CV companies don’t even get to our test stage. While there are bound to be exceptions it seems clear to us that many ‘professional CV writers’ with experience at other companies do not appear to work to the same standards, or show the same attention to detail as we do here at CVSucceed.co.uk

Talent and us

For us, though, talent is fundamental, and it is a basic prerequisite for anyone wanting to work at CV Succeed.

Indeed, it is our belief that there is simply no way to be a top CV writer without talent – and serious writing talent come to that! This is one reason why every member of our team has more than just extensive writing experience, but also creative prowess and a wonderful way with words.

The way most CV writers work

The vast majority of CV writers work to standard CV writing methodology that involves writing in a relatively passive manner without particularly strict vertical or horizontal space restrictions. One reason for this is that it is far easier to write without strict space constraints, and another reason is that, quite simply, it is what they are used to and they are not aware of more modern, better alternative ways of creating higher impact CVs.

This is one reason why many typical professional CVs are long and cluttered, and is one reason why many professional CVs tend not to be too different from the client’s original CV.

Our team includes published authors, experienced corporate writers, creative writers, marketing copywriters, and linguists. Each of us lives and breathes the writing process, and we’ve been doing so for many years.

The way our writers work

Firstly, our methods are different. If you click here you can read more about our pioneering in-house developed CV writing methodology that has its roots in sales and marketing principles. If you don’t want to read the nitty-gritty, in a nutshell we say more, but in fewer words. It sounds easy, but it’s actually an extremely difficult feat to pull off, and takes a specialist skill. Part of it involves writing with much stricter space constraints than other companies use, and part of it involves writing more proactively, and meticulously optimising each and every CV.

The proof is in the pudding

For this reason, every person who applies to work with us faces an extremely challenging written test before we’ll even consider them. Amongst other things the test involves writing more proactively within tight space constraints than the applicant is used to.

The vast majority of applicants don’t get past the very first test, and some people don’t even get as far as the test (for example, those who fail to include a suitable cover letter or write a professional introduction as part of their application).
