Publishing is a long process, and publishers are very discerning and very methodical. So many more questions followed.
Of course, there is more to publishing than just a good book. And publishers also want to ascertain whether a book or not is marketable, and whether people will actually want to read it or not.
To a large extent this question was taken out of my hands, and was left for Pearson’s marketing department to consider. I will never know what was actually discussed, but I was certainly pleased when my editor informed me that the marketing department had given the book the thumbs up, and that they wanted to publish it.
