Interview with CV writer page 11

Q. Do you have any tips for clients?
A. The vast majority of clients who come to us are great. They usually quickly ascertain that we know we’re talking about, and they give us the freedom to optimise their CV to how we think will give them maximum benefit.

A minority of clients, on the other hand, for some reason or another have preset ideas about what a CV should include/exclude, and rather than give us the freedom to optimise their CV for their target job, they instead insist on changes. Frequently, these changes are counter-productive and are a backward step. In fact, clients who insist on changes usually end up with something that is a bit similar to their original CV which wasn’t working in the first place.

It wasn’t working in the first place, there must be a reason for that. In fact, there are usually numerous reasons, which is why we make changes.
So one tip I would give clients is to trust our judgement. We know what we’re doing, and we get results for those people who have faith in our suggestions.
